Roundtable on the Italian Industrial System
On the occasion of the presentation of the volume on the Group’s history “Italcementi: From Domestic Leadership to Internationalization” by Professor Vera Zamagni, the Foundation promoted a roundtable entitled “The Past and the Future of the Italian Industrial System”.
Hosted by the University of Bergamo, the event saw the presence of representatives from the academic, institutional and industrial sectors.

The roundtable was streamed live on the Internet to both faculty tutors and students from four prestigious Italian Universities -- Bergamo, Milan’s Bocconi, Bologna and Alta Scuola Politecnica Milan-Turin -- participating in chat session.
The objective of the initiative was to bring growth and sustainability of the industry and industrial operations to the attention of both students about to graduate and recent graduates enrolled in post-graduate programs of excellence, while offering entrepreneurs, professors, and representatives of financial and other institutions direct exposure to the curiosity, expectations and passions of today's young people.
The event featured the participation of Giovanni Giavazzi, the Italcementi Foundation’s Chairman, Alberto Castoldi, Rector of the University of Bergamo, and several keynote speakers such as Alberto Bombassei, Vice President of Confindustria, Mario Deaglio, Professor of international economics at the University of Turin, Giampiero Pesenti, Chairman of Italcementi, Angelo Tantazzi, Chairman of Borsa Italiana, and Vera Zamagni, Professor of economic history at the University of Bologna. The roundtable pinpointed the most significant events in the history of our country and its industry from Italy’s unification through the First and Second World Wars up to the present day. Italcementi was showcased as an example of successful competitive enterprise to be emulated. In 140 years, it has gained an enormous wealth of experience without losing its family roots and its ties with its territory of origin. Not only has it managed to expand its presence on the international market stage by increasing production capacity, it has also heavily invested in research and human resources. This combination of entrepreneurial spirit, courage, technical excellence, innovation and growth may well serve as a stimulus and example to today’s young people, tomorrow’s business professionals.
