8 October 2008 Leslie Robertson skyscrapers engineer at Italcementi Foundation and Italcementi laboratories.

Leslie Robertson, chief engineer of design of the tallest buildings in the world met last Wednesday October 8th, some students coming from Bergamo University Engineering Department.
The ideal setting was Italcementi Foundation that promotes education and scientific research by high formation processes and training aimed at the growth of young generations. Giovanni Giavazzi President of Italcementi Foundation welcomed Mr Robertson and his wife.
This meeting at Italcementi headquarters in Bergamo was such an opportunity for Mr Robertson to visit laboratories and meet thirty students that in the afternoon followed his lecture at Bergamo University Engineering department.
This visit allowed Mr.Robertson to ascertain Italcementi Group commitment in the research of new materials and innovative technical solutions available to the whole construction sector

Italcementi’s researchers showed Mr Robertson , TX Active® high quality standards of killing pollution as a new weapon against smog . The New York Times recently praised the innovative value of TX Active®.
In a scoreboard published by the magazine of the US daily, TX Active® is named as one of the 70 most innovative ideas of 2007 Mr. Robertson paid a special attention to this cement and its photocatalytic principle that can reduce organic and inorganic pollutants that are present in the air, as ideal product for the buildings of the future.

Leslie E. Robertson was the chief engineer in charge of design of the World Trade Centre in New York, which was destroyed in the September 11, 2001 attacks.
He has been structural engineer on numerous other projects, including the Shanghai World Financial Centre and Mr. Robertson is responsible for the structural design of hundreds of buildings and structures about the world including the World Trade Centre (New York), the United States Steel Headquarters (Pittsburgh), the Bank of China Tower (Hong Kong), Puerta de Europa (Madrid) and the Continental Arena (Meadowlands) as well as exceptional museums in Berlin, Portland (Maine) and Seattle, and the Miho Museum Bridge (Japan).With his innovations in structural engineering, Mr. Robertson has set new standards in the design and construction of tall buildings.
A pioneer in the application of computers to design, he has advanced the art and the science of structural engineering theory. Mr. Robertson's work on skyscrapers, domes, bridges and long-span roofs has transformed engineering theory into practical technological breakthroughs that free architects to build the stuff of dreams the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong. He received the IStructE Gold Medal in 2004.

18 December 2007 Italcementi Foundation, University Bocconi in Milan , Bergamo University, in collaboration with Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)- have signed on 18.12.2007 a collaboration agreement for a PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

To offer high training and to start activity of search in the field of the management of the processes of integrated logistics and the relationships between companies and global network of logistic and productive services: these are the aims of the PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
The scientific validity and the didactic excellence of the initiative are also granted by the agreement with Bocconi university and Zaragoza Logistic Center that since 2005 is a partner of the outstanding MIT (Massachussets Institute of Technology) in Boston. The agreement foresees scholarships going to talented and deserving graduate students who are enrolled in a PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Students, teachers and researchers exchanges either in Bergamo University than in Zaragoza logistics center are also included .The teaching staff will involve foreign teachers, experienced of logistics and supply chain management, coming from the following institutions: Warwick Business School, Ucla, Mit-Zlc, Mit in Boston, Cranfield School of Management, Imd, Erasmus Rotterdam School of Management, Tel Aviv University, European Institute of Purchasing Management, New York Politechnic and Essec in Paris.
The PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is dedicated to the preparation and the scientific training of young researcher focused on the topics of the logistics and supply chain management in the global context and is delivered by the University of Bergamo particularly by its Department of Business Administration. The PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is a 3 year program mainly dedicated to young students with a second level degree in Economics, Management, Business Administration and Engineering. The programme will start in the academic year 2007/2008. Training is mainly concentrated in the first three semesters. During this period, the attendance of a selection of courses (at least for a quarter) delivered by MIT-ZLC in its MSc in Supply Chain Management is mandatory.
Fondazione Italcementi Cav. Lav. Carlo Pesenti is a non-profit institution established in 2004 during the celebration of Italcementi’s 140th anniversary. Its goals are to promote education and scientific research, sustainable economic and social development of enterprises and the ethical, social and cultural growth of the society.


1 December 2007 Bergamo: on December 1st 2007 Fondazione Italcementi promoted a meeting on Sustainable development: a common track for emerging and mature economies. Joseph E.Stiglitz presented his view on possible scenarios and perspective for Sustainable development- Contributors were: Al Gore, Barack Obama.
