The celebrations for the 140th anniversary of Italcementi ended with the presentation of the Fondazione Italcementi Cavaliere del Lavoro Carlo Pesenti.
Local and national political authorities and representatives from industrial and business community participated in the event that took place in Teatro Donizetti.
According to Giampiero Pesenti, Chairman of Italcementi, and Giovanni Giavazzi, Chairman of the newly born Foundation, the main objective of the Fondazione Italcementi is to promote research, ethics and culture in order to spread principles and values proper to the issue of sustainable development.
"Italcementi and Italmobiliare wanted to create this new Foundation in honour of my father to support instruction and scientific research on issues related to sustainable development in a corporate perspective" told Giampiero Pesenti. In a postwar Italy, Carlo Pesenti (1907-1984) was one of the leading exponents of the industrial and financial world. He was the son of Augusto who founded with his five brothers the "Fratelli Pesenti fu Antonio" company. Carlo was the family's third generation to operate in the cement group.
"Development and innovation: the target that has been guiding us for 140 years since the creation of Italcementi. Five generations of my family have participated in this process, from the constitution in 1864 of the Società Bergamasca per la Fabbricazione del Cemento e della Calce Idraulica that then merged with the Fratelli Pesenti fu Antonio. From that moment, Italcementi has overcome, always with courage and passion, challenges and has become the fifth cement producer present in 19 countries. In order to reach its objectives, the Foundation, presently chaired by Giovanni Giavazzi (Chairman) and Giampiero Pesenti (Vice Chairman), will collaborate with Italian and foreign organisations from the public and private sector.
"This Foundation creation recalls Italcementi tradition and represents a boost for the future. Our Group has always had a tradition characterized by sensibility and sense of participation. Our initiatives range from assistance to promotion, from culture to research, from social to territorial needs.
The creation of the Fondazione Italcementi is a sign of trust, an expression of hope and the undertaking of responsibility" said Giovanni Giavazzi. The Foundation, a non-profit, autonomous and independent institution will support scientific research and technology innovation to ensure the economic and social development of the territory.
The board of directors, on the President's request, can appoint a Scientific Committee that will collaborate to the activities. "Sustainable development means a new challenge, different in its complexity and its nature, for enterprises. It is now essential to follow the "triple bottom line" of SD that focuses not only on the economic value but also on social development and environment protection. For that reason, enterprise growth should be orientated towards an industrial development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" underlined CEO Carlo Pesenti during its presentation.
Concerning the future of Italian industry, the event was the occasion for Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, President of Confindustria, and Savino Pezzotta, CISL Trade Union General Secretary, to debate on "New challenges for industry: duties and opportunities".
The face-to-face was followed by a presentation of Andrea Moltrasio, President of Unione Industriali di Bergamo, on "Bergamo: enterprises beyond borders". |
